Movie Review - Super 8

My son and I went to see Super 8 on Friday night.

We both loved it.

Here is what he thought.....

I thought it was awesome. The train crash was my favorite part. I thought the kids were funny. I want to see it again.

Here is what I thought......

Great story. The kids were very funny and did not over-act which kids sometimes do. The alien was pretty awesome. Kyle Chandler is HOT! I loved the fact that I really didn't know too much from the trailer. I hate when I see a movie and it feels like I am watching it for the second time because the trailer gave so much away. You don't see the alien right away which again I love. The buildup of seeing it is way more exciting then just shoving it in your face the first five seconds of the movie. I don't want to give to much away because it is definitely worth your time and money to go and see it. I really enjoyed that this movie takes place in 1979. The group of friends remind me of movies like Stand By Me, ET and Now and Then. Which is great because I love those movies. I spent part of the film just watching the expressions on my sons face.....yes I am one of those creepy Moms...Sorry. He had the biggest grin on his face when the kids were doing things like swearing (hell, shit damn nothing too risque), lighting firecrackers and sneaking out. There is one scene where an adult says the F-word (which I can't condemn them for because I have been known to say it myself a time or two) he darted a quick glance in my direction when it happened.....I think he was waiting to see if I would want him to cover his ears but I pretended it never happened and so he went back to grinning.

I HIGHLY recommend this film. It has everything. Action, Adventure, Humor, Love, Mystery and a bit of Nostalgia.

Oh and it was also the first time I saw the Harry Potter trailer on the big screen and I cried.....don't judge me!

I love Jake Ryan

Today I would like to dedicate my post to the unbelievably hot guys of  my youth.

I spent the better part of my teen years being hopelessly in love with Jake Ryan from Sixteen Candles.

Every boy in high school was was judged against his hotness. I know this isn't fair but that's what you do when your a teenager with unrealistic hopes and dreams and the most uncontrollable imagination.

If I am being honest which I sometimes like to do....I still fantasize about Jake Ryan. Whenever I imagine a new male character he always somehow ends up...in my mind....looking like Jake Ryan.

Jake Ryan isn't his actual name...in case you didn't know his real name is Michael Schoeffling.

He has not been in a movie since 1991. I loved him in all of his movies but the Jake Ryan character is by far my favorite. So after doing a little stalking it appears that Michael Schoeffling now is a furniture maker living somewhere in Pennsylvania....and no just because I know this now and because I too live in Pennsylvania I am not going search every phone book to located his furniture store....geez....plus I don't think he has a store you have to special order the furniture...and no I am not going to special order a piece of furniture....but how cool would it be to say "Oh this table well Jake Ryan made it especially for me"...Well now I know what I want for my birthday.

Okay so on to some of the others....

.but I want to make sure you understand that although the rest are pretty hot

Jake Ryan is king!

Rob Lowe - The Outsiders

Although Rob Lowe is pretty enough to be a girl he was really hot in this movie because he was supposed to be tough.

Partick Swayze

Patrick is hot in just about every movie he was in but I love him the most in Dirty Dancing and Ghost!

Josh Brolin - The Goonies

One of my all time favorite movies and Josh was just so hot in his little workout clothes and headband.

Kevin Bacon - Footloose

Honestly I don't think Kevin Bacon is all that hot. I think I am more attracted to him because his last name is bacon and I LOVE Bacon! But he was kind of hot in this movie.

John Laughlin however was in my opinion the hottest guy in the movie Footloose!

John Cusak
Although not the hottest guy his sweet characters set my little teenage heart a flutter. John continues to be one of my favorite actors. He is one of those actors whose films I will put my hard earned money out to see no matter what. Additionally he was in another of my all time favorite movies Better off Dead. It is so funny!

So there you have it ladies and gentleman. Tomorrow Stacey and I will be talking about Twilight...and I know he is cute and all by Robert Pattinson is no Jake Ryan....just saying.

Lazy Girl

My lovely darling sweet little girl has returned from college.

I counted the days until she would be back....eagerly waiting for

the laughs

the talks

the reading

the laughs....yes we laugh a lot some might say too much **ahem Chris***

the movies...Mamma Mia, Pride and Prejudice, The Lost Boys, Harry Potter

the TV shows...Glee, Bones, The Office

the help? yeah right!

I missed her

Now that she is back

She is driving me crazy

Never has there been a lazier human being

When I leave for work she is tucked snuggley in bed sleeping soundly

When I return from work she is still in bed. Blankets wrapped around her. Headphones on. Laptop on lap.

Cell phone within....not even reaching distance cause God forbid she have to stretch her arm

And I want to strangle her!

Some days I come home and feel like I could collapse from exhaustion. And there she is laying in bed watching the episode of Bones that I haven't found the time to watch yet.

I know its not her fault my job sucks

I know she doesn't mean to make me want to kill her

I know she might even wish I had a minute to sit and watch Bones together

But....I still want to walk into my room and quietly disconnect the wireless just to make her suffer

Does that make me a bad Mom?

Movie Review Water for Elephants

I hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day

It was a beautiful day here in Pennsylvania very sunny and warm

Usually my sisters and I take our Mom out to antique stores after our brunch

but this year we decided to go see the movie

Water for Elephants

We all loved the book written by Sara Gruen

Unfortunately we could not all go so it ended up being my sister Judith, My Mom, me

and Amber (who has returned from her first year of college YEAH)

A handsome veterinary student falls for a married circus performer in this romantic drama adapted from author Sara Gruen's best-selling novel, and directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend). When Jacob (Robert Pattinson) meets Marlena (Reese Witherspoon), it's love at first sight -- their shared affections for an extraordinary elephant stirring profound feelings of compassion within both of them. Theirs is a love that could span lifetimes, though the wrath of Marlena's dangerously domineering husband, August (Christoph Waltz), threatens to spell tragedy for all involved.

Absolutely beautifully filmed. The movie from the first scene has such an epic quality. The sets, costumes and music were so enchanting it truly is very magical. I loved the older man who played Jacob in the beginning he really set the character of Jacob up perfectly in his brief time on the screen. I was okay with Robert Pattinson as young Jakob although I am not a huge fan. Reese Witherspoon as Marlena I thought was an odd choice when I first heard she was going to play the part....I love Reese but I kind of found her to be a little too old. I have no idea what the age difference is between the two actors but it had a very Mrs. Robinson feel to it. The actor who plays August plays the part of an abusive jerk very well. You will hate him.

There is a scene...I don't want to give anything away but there is a scene with the elephant and it just really upset me.

 In all I enjoyed the film....I think ticket prices are outrageous but I do think this film is meant to be seen in the theater...unless you are lucky enough to have one of those home theaters in your house.

I would say it is worth putting the money out and i don't think you will be disappointed.

Friends In Movies

I love movies. My movie knowledge is like a super power.

It's embarrassing because I would totally pick mind reading as a super power but instead I got

 Movie Knowledge

Anyway that was a weird and long way to say I like movies!

I will watch anything....action, horror, romance, comedy, thriller

I don't care for the overly gross slasher type films made strictly to shock

Buddy films and movies about friends are some of my favorites.

I love the line from Sleepless in Seattle when Meg Ryan's character and Rosie O'Donnell's character are talking and Meg Ryan says

"She looked like someone we would be friends with"

I love this line because I was thinking the same thing about Meg and Rosie's characters.....

they seemed like someone I would be friends with

Add it to my list of weird because I have on more then one occasion imagine myself inserted into a particular movie as the other friend

Don't even get me started on Sex in the City I would totally be a part of that group....

if I lived in New York, had a cool job, made lots of money and of course they were real

The friendship between Carrie and her friends is amazing....the scene where Charlotte stops Big from coming any closer to Carrie after he leaves her at the altar is so emotional and protective I cried.

The young girls in the movie Now and Then remind me so much of myself and my friends growing up

I could go on with this all day but I want to get to my "Blog Friend" of the day

She has admitted to saying this that should not be said and this is what makes her blog a great read

You never know what Stacey is going to blog about....it could be running a marathon it could be nail polish that changes color with your mood. She has touched on serious subjects but mostly her blog is FUN!

We have done co posts which are great because we love to see the sameness and the differences in our choices.

In my real life Stacey is referred to as "My Best Blog Friend" or " BBF"

as in "I see you and your bbf did a joint post again"

Harry Potter Day

Everyone knows that I am a huge Harry Potter Geek

 and 

I am sure everyone knows that my children are as well

My son and I decided that during his Easter aka Spring Break we would have a 

Harry Potter Day!

I know sounds awesome right?

Well you are right it was awesome we had a great time doing all things Harry Potter

We put on our Harry Potter gear....robe, scarf and of course wands

Made ourselves some butterbeer and pumpkin juice and gathered all 7 of the movies

Then we watched the movies while building his latest addition to his 

Harry Potter Lego Collection

Diagon Alley (it's really cool and very detailed)

We played Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on Wii....Had duels with our wands while jumping on the trampoline.......made plaster busts of Harry and Dumbledore 

(it was a kit I bought I will share when they are dry)

We ended the day with reading a few pages from each of our favorite Harry Potter books.

I love spending time with my son we had a great time together and not once did he seem to be embarrassed about hanging with his mom...Next we are going to have a Star Wars Day 

(or so he has requested)
