The Lonely Doll

I mentioned in my first post that I once stole a book from the Library it was The Lonely Doll by Dare Wright. It was my favorite book and every time my sisters took me to the library I would pull it from the shelf and sit myself on the floor and look at the pictures. One day I must have taken it upon myself to just walk out with it. This was before the time of security sensors. I had that book in my room for as long as I can remember and then one day it was gone. Maybe a niece or nephew picked it up and decided to walk off with it, karma coming back to bite me. After I had my daughter I wished I had it to share with her.

My darling sister knowing how much I loved the book found it for me on eBay and gave it to me for my birthday. It was the greatest birthday present ever because it showed me just how much she knows me. And its always nice to know someone is interested in knowing who you are.

The Lonely Doll was published in 1957 it is the story of a little doll named Edith who has everything she could want except for a friend. Mr. Bear and Little Bear show up in her garden and Mr. Bear announces that they have come to be her friends. She is so happy to have them. Edith and Little Bear get into trouble when Mr. Bear goes out for a walk and Edith fears the bears will leave. Mr. Bear soothes that fear and promises that they will never leave her. The story is photographically illustrated beautifully by the author using her own childhood doll and bears that belonged to her brothers. The books are available in paperback but nothing beats the original hardcover that my sister found for me.

Along with The Velveteen Rabbit The Lonely Doll remains one of my favorite children's books.

Hey, I'm on the blog hop, too. This is so cool! Love this post.... a friend reminded me of a classic favorite the other day, Frog and Toad. I love remembering these classics with my girls. What fun!

Hey,
I'm from the blog hop too! I love the images you posted from this book. There's something so beautiful and sad about dolls-interacting-with-the-world photos. I'm not sure what it is.

Keep submitting your work!
